Follow these tips to complete your home improvement project successfully.

• Get bids from other contractors
• Check that the contractor has a valid license
• Check that the contractor has insurance, and ask to see proof of insurance
• Ask for local references, and go see completed work
• Make sure appropriate permits are obtained
• Get all details about the project in writing
• Never pay in full in advance
